Notes on the Movember story.

I really wanted to write a short news article, because I am appauling at them and I thought it would be good practice to try and do one for Navigator. I find it very hard to try and fit information into as little as a few hundred words and still make it a half decent article. Not entirely sure what to think of it.

Had a few hiccups in the bar as well. My SLR decided to have a lens fault so I had to use my mobile phone, so excuse the dodgy images.

I moustache, is that real?

On Saturday night EightBar in Falmouth held a Dirty Bikers party in aid of men’s health charity Movember.

The international event, which specifically highlights prostate cancer, encourages participants to grow a moustache throughout the month of November. The event has seen huge international success and is now in its fourth year.

“It’s something that you don’t normally hear a lot about, but I think that it is important and it’s a lot of fun to raise money in this way,” said Steve Pacey, a student at Plymouth University, who came armed with a good few weeks of facial hair.

Over £30 million has been raised for their partner The Prostate Cancer Charity throughout the four years Movember has been active. “Going forward, Movember will continue to work towards helping to change established habits and attitudes and make men aware of the risks they face, thereby increasing early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment,” says the Movember website.

The Dirty Bikers party was held in classy cocktail lounge EightBar where biker fancy dress saw the venue turn into a scene resembling a ‘70s Village People concert.

Illustration student Christopher Jones said: “This is such a fantastic way to raise awareness about cancer in men. The dangers need to be highlighted more and the support this event is gaining is really good.”

Music was supplied by Sir Vinyl of the Fattest, a dance music DJ group from Penzance. The tunes were pumping out as the ladys donned fake paper moustaches handed out by the bar so they didn’t feel too left out.

Contributions were given all night long by ‘Mo Bros’, and their ‘Mo Sistas’ towards Movember and the final amount is expected to be confirmed soon.
